Valla, Lorenzo
(1407, Roma, Estados Pontificios–1 ago. 1457, Roma).

Humanista, filósofo y crítico literario italiano. Al no obtener un cargo como secretario papal, Valla dejó Roma en 1430 y pasó los siguientes cinco años viajando por el norte de Italia. Fue secretario real e historiador para Alfonso V de Aragón (1435–48). Con su estilo polémico, criticó la obra de Boecio (por su punto de vista), de Aristóteles (por sus "barbarismos, entre otras cosas) y Cicerón (por el estilo de su prosa). Acusado de herético por la Inquisición al negarse creer que el Credo de los Apóstoles fue compuesto por los 12 apóstoles y escapó de ser quemado en la hoguera. Su obra, Elegantiae linguae Latinae (impresa en 1471; "Elegancias de la lengua latina), fue el primer manual de texto de gramática latina escrito en la antigüedad. Su obra,"Anotazionni sul Testo latino del Nuovo Testamento (impresa en 1505) fue su última gran obra.
